We work with some pretty sharp dressers, and it’s always a treat to see what they will wear each day. We’re highlighting a few of the stories behind their looks.

Leather jacket, Callalilai: “I’m from Hawaii, and there all I wear is swimsuits, jean shorts, and rubber slippers— people call them flip-flops here—so it was a challenge for me to learn how to dress in the New York City heat.. Here, it’s suffocating, but in Hawaii, it’s a comfortable heat.  I physically feel the heat here, like it’s weighing on me. In Hawaii, we have trade winds so there’s always a breeze.

I also had a hard time adjusting to the cold. My mom gave me a lot of turtlenecks— her idea of mainland wear— and various colored tights. I went through a lot of ugly, embarrassing outfits, but now I wear my leather jackets a lot. I still get really cold. I have a ton of blankets, a huge duvet topped with a heavy quilt and two more sheets. I’ll wear flannel pajama pants to bed.”

Ankle boots, Dolce Vita: “I went back three times because they didn’t have a size 6 available. I finally got them at a discount because one of the straps was gone. I just took the second one off.”

Nail wraps, ShopNCLA.com: “They’re red with white half moons on them. I discovered them because I follow one of their nail wrap designers on Instagram. They last about two to three weeks with some maintenance—just put top coat on them—and it’s cheaper than getting my nails done every month.”
