WarbyCon 2016

At our New York headquarters we recently held our first annual WarbyCon: a day-long lineup of brain-tickling talks by coworkers, on subjects ranging from Bayesian statistics to pop music to being a good person.

At our New York headquarters we recently held our first annual WarbyCon: a day-long lineup of brain-tickling talks by coworkers, on subjects ranging from Bayesian statistics to pop music to being a good person.

The concepts were out there, and the interesting factoids were too many to count—but here are a few that stick out:

1. It’s possible to mail a postcard from the summit of Mount Fuji. (“Learn to Work from Anywhere”)

2. Drone-delivered Slurpees from 7-Eleven may soon be a real thing. (“Trends in Shipping: How Warby Parker Glasses Might Be Delivered in the Future”)

3. One man named Max Martin has written or co-written 22 Billboard number-one songs since 1999. (Keynote address)

4. Single-purpose retail stores are becoming a thing of the past—look out for more coffee counters at clothing stores (and bakeshops at bookstores, and so on) in the near future. (“Emerging Retail Real Estate Trends”)

5. An employee’s father once appeared as a male model in a Lil’ Kim video. He fed her strawberries. (“Career Stories: WarbyCon Edition”)

The More You Know! We really can’t wait for next year.

Three’s a party

In the last few weeks, we’ve opened up two (2) new stores Chicagoland, and one in Tysons Corner, Virginia! If you live, work, play, or otherwise exist in either of these places, come say hi.

In the last few weeks, we’ve opened up two (2) new stores in Chicagoland, and one in Tysons Corner, Virginia! If you live, work, play, or otherwise exist in either of these places, we hope you’ll come say hi.

We’re loving our new home in the Gold Coast—it’s our second in Chicago after our first on W. Armitage—and the views of Lake Michigan in the neighborhood can’t be beat. The main attraction at our new store (besides the glasses, of course): two original murals of local landmarks, Willis Tower and the John Hancock Center, by the ever clever Jason Munn.

Our second new store in Chicagoland is just outside the city, at Oakbrook Center. Behind the Reference Desk, you’ll find a sprawling abstract mural by local illustrator Cody Hudson. (If you back up, squint, and cock your head a little, you might make out eyes, glasses, and books in it.). We’re so happy to have his energy in store.

And finally, our space at Tysons Corner features a mural by our good friend Maira Kalman. By the front doors, you’ll also spot our patented (O.K., not actually patented) reading positions wallpaper. Feel free to find a good book on our shelves, pick a position that suits you, and try it out on the comfy leather seating by the windows.

To Read: How Do You Sleep at Night?

How do you sleep at night? To sleep, perchance to actually have time to sleep. Doctors recommend no screens or snacking in bed, but we think you’ll find these reads satisfying in their own way.

Our Newest Collection

These sunglasses are—how else to say it?—jewelry for the face.

These sunglasses are—how else to say it?—jewelry for the face. This is your glimmering holiday adornment, a bevy of beauties that mix 1970s decadence with fairy-tale whimsy. We started with titanium editions of stylized silhouettes—an oversized round frame; a slinky cat-eye—and adorned them with hand-painted enamel details in Snow, Rose, and Mint. Flash mirrored lenses and contrasting temple tips are the flourishes that take these frames from “head-turning” to “imminently collectible.” (And titanium nose pads make the light-as-a-feather shapes as comfortable as can be.) For added opulence, we’re introducing a new Rose Gold colorway that takes the warmest metal and makes it blush.

We’ve also included an all-black pair with tonal hand-painted enamel and temple tips for those who prefer their adornment on the minimalist side. Each pair comes inside a black leather case with grey lining for maximum covetability (and giftability).
