This month, we’re celebrating our good bud, illustrator Donald Robertson and his new book, Mitford at the Fashion Zoo, at a favorite Manhattan space, STORY.

A boutique that reinvents itself every few weeks, STORY brings in a fresh crop of goods centered around a different concept, and this August, that theme is Donald—and his cast of bespectacled characters. We’re so pleased to participate. Our Piper sunglasses in Jet Black and Downing in Jet Black are available exclusively at the space with one-of-a-kind lens cloth, case, and box illustrated by Donald. The man is a geyser of creativity—always painting, always posting!—but he paused long enough to answer a few of our questions. Thank you, Donald!

Favorite condiment to paint with: Jam or ketchup

Craziest non-paintbrush utensil I’ve used: My kids’ hands!

Give me room service and I’ll make a jam mouth or ketchup lips

Weirdest surface I’ve ever painted: A 1976 El Dorado convertible for Art Basel

Favorite texture: Gaffer tape

Can’t live without my Mr. Coffee Maker (day) and a corkscrew (night)

Longest I’ve gone without logging onto Instagram: I never log out. Are you supposed to log out? Don’t tell anyone I never log out. Ha!

The secret to creative self-discipline is: Act like a five-year-old!
