Introducing the Sculpted Series

Today, we’re dropping four new frames with extreme outfit-enhancing power: Gemma, Skye, Stella, and Mae.

Today, we’re dropping four new frames with extreme outfit-enhancing power: Gemma, Skye, Stella, and Mae.

They’re handcrafted in Italy from premium cellulose acetate and feature an uncommon construction. On the face of each frame, two layers of contrasting acetate are laminated together, the frontmost layer carefully sculpted down to reveal glimpses of the layer behind. The result: an arresting frame-within-a-frame effect. Add beveled temples on each side—the first full collection of frames we’ve ever released with this detail—and…sigh. (Like, a good sigh—no exasperation here.)

Acetates in this series come in rich, stone-inspired hues—from graphic Onyx Tortoise to moody Sable Horn to warm Rose Clay—and are paired for maximum visual impact. And all four frames (Stella especially) are generously oversized. All the better for remaining mysterious.

The Great American Solar Eclipse Is Coming

It’s not very often that a total solar eclipse crosses the country from coast to coast (the last time it happened was in 1918!). On August 21 this year, it’s happening again, and we are over the moon about it—no weird, inverse pun intended.

We’ve recorded a high-powered ballad about astrophysics, are giving away free eclipse-viewing gear at all of our stores starting August 1, and are flying one lucky eclipse observer and a friend out to celebrate with us in Nashville on the big day (official contest rules here).

Everything you need to know is on one big, eclipse-y page. Check it out >

To Read: What’s Got You Blue?

Sometimes blue is not the warmest color. You never know what will bring on the mean reds or the other harmful shades of the color wheel, but maybe these books can provide a bit of solace—a green room instead of the wild blue yonder.

Summer Reading: “Fly Me” by Daniel Riley

Recent Vassar graduate Suzy Whitman couldn’t have known that within months of moving across the country—ostensibly to skate, surf, and steward the clear blue skies aboard Grand Pacific Airlines’ 747s— she’d be smuggling drugs and even flying the planes herself.

Recent Vassar graduate Suzy Whitman couldn’t have known that within months of moving across the country—ostensibly to skate, surf, and steward the clear blue skies aboard Grand Pacific Airlines’ 747s— she’d be smuggling drugs and even flying the planes herself. But it’s 1972, skyjackings appear in the papers every week, and our russet-headed, antics-prone heroine is soon at the center of a strange and mostly forgotten chapter of American history. Led Zeppelin plays on the radio; Walter Cronkite’s face seems always to be on TV. Pog is the nonalcoholic beverage of choice, and Reverend Jim Jones is posting flyers on the boardwalk. Suzy, meanwhile, is learning just how dangerously she’s willing to live.

“Fly Me,” Daniel Riley’s debut novel, is funny, poignant, and attentive. Sun-soaked and warm-hearted, it almost seems as though it were *written* on the beach.
