Portland Picks, Part One
The Warby Parker Class Trip is in Portland! Instant camera in hand, we asked a handful of in-the-know locals for their tips on where to eat, drink, shop and be merry.
Narrative artist Maryanna Hoggatt recommends:
Apex: ”I used to work here and one of my good friends tends bar, so we go here a lot in the summer. Beer + Patio. We’ve also been hosting a monthly Drink + Draw event in the summer. I’ve done lots of sketchbook drawing here.” 1216 SE Division St.
Non’s Khao Man Gai: “I go to the tiny take-out kitchen spot on the East side, and the lady that is always working knows me by name and my exact order (extra peanut sauce). Delicious.” 1003 SW Alder St.
C Bar: “I used to work here too— for almost six years! It’s the source of my mini-comic series, Adult Babysitting. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time here.” 2880 SE Gladstone St.
Laurelhurst Theater: “$4 admission, beer, pizza, and they even show older releases like Jaws or Cool Hand Luke.” 2735 E Burnside St.
And a few favorite spots from Shannon Guirl, owner of Caravan Pacific:
Bridge & Burn: “I’ve been a long-time fan of Eric’s designs. Now that he has a flagship store in downtown Portland, I’m going to have to stop myself from going to every weekend.” 1122 SW Morrison St.
Salt & Straw: “Heaven on a sugar cone.” 2035 NE Alberta St.
Kir Wine Bar: “Quiet little spot that has choice small plates and a great wine selection.” 22 NE 7th Ave.
Beam & Anchor: “Seriously, I wish I could live at this store. Seriously.” 2710 N Interstate Ave.
